Fender’s Jazzmaster released in 1958, designed for Jazz musicians and intending to be a market-breaking successor to the Telecaster and Stratocaster. The jazz community politely declined (read: ignored) Fender’s offer…but the Jazzmaster’s story does not end there. On the contrary: this curvaceous, contoured wonder of a guitar instead found its way into the unlikely hands of some of the most divergent, innovative musical sects of the ‘60s and ‘70s, establishing the Jazzmaster as a guitar for those who want to do something a little different. The first of Fender’s product line to feature two separate tone circuits, the Jazzmaster’s design accommodates all manner of guitar players - from the Surf Rockers of the ‘60s to the indie and alternative players of today.
