Before GT3s and flappy paddle gearboxes, weekend racers had to earn their stripes like the rest of ‘em—with a lightweight alloy body, a magnesium 2.7L flat-6 and a revolutionary Bosch fuel injection system that might as well have been built my the Greek gods themselves—the basics.
All those “basics” belonged to none other than Porsche’s extremely limited (1,580 cars), 2.7L Carrera RS. Introduced at the tail end of 1972, the 1973 Carrera RS was the first “road-going” race car that Porsche had built. This was the FIRST RS and arguably—the ONLY RS. The capabilities of this iconic sports car were near endless. From a grocery getter to a 24 Hour of LeMans contender, it was (and still is) the ultimate 911.
Pictured here, an immaculate and unrestored 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS Touring. Finished in its correct India Red (1 of only 12) over a Black vinyl and Pepita (houndstooth) interior, this incredibly well-maintained RS has only 67k original/documented km (41k mi.) and reportedly has never seen an apex. Having been used exclusively as a weekend road car for spirited drives and taken to the occasional car show, this speciality 911 has benefitted from a life of plush care and maintenance. Additionally—it matches! From the motor to the gearbox and from body panels down to the wheels, this ’73 RS Touring is completely numbers matching and is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, copies of each U.S. registration since its initial importation in 1974, a complete tool kit, tire inflater cylinder, original jack w/matching spare alloy wheel, a full owner’s manual and the chassis corresponding, “RS Book” by Dr. Thomas Gruber and Dr. Georg.
