At the beginning of the Sixties, Ford was trying its hardest to buy out the venerable Ferrari brand. After lengthy negotiations and a deal seeming increasingly likely, Enzo Ferrari dismissed the whole matter, rebutting his American homologue. From that day forward, Henry Ford II had but one thing on his mind: to take his revenge on the circuit by beating Ferrari on its home turf, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Thus, the Ford GT40 was born. While the editions of 1964 and 65 were shameful failures on Ford’s part, between 1966 and 1969 Ford made history by lining up four consecutive wins. The Ford-Ferrari duel remains to this day in the eyes of the public one of the most impressive of all time.
