After 1973, Porsche struggled to retain customers as their dive into meeting California emissions regulations caused a panic amongst engineers…and purists. With changes such as a revised Bosch fuel injection system and a bit of indecisiveness when it came to engine casing material—steel or magnesium—the 911 began to lose steam. Thankfully, all that was needed was a plan—a five year plan to be exact.

It was decided that next five years of the 911 would receive a 915, 5-speed manual gearbox, a galvanized body/chassis, and come in three variants, a Coupe, Targa and for the first time in the 911 model, a Cabriolet for the 1982/83 model year. The SC or Super Carrera, was produced from 1978 to 1983 and with a concise technical/mechanical plan in place, Porsche was able to familiarize international markets and mechanics alike.

Photographed here, our 1978 Porsche 911 SC Targa “Turbo Look” is an absolute unicorn. Finished in its original specification of Grand-Prix White over a Black interior with Blue & Green “Tartan” (plaid) accents and factory Turbo bodywork, this incredible, likely one-off 911, is accompanied by records dating back to the late ‘70s and a Porsche technical certification from September of 2024—verifying all of the options. Having been fully restored by Carolina Coach Crafters in 2018. this particular car pre-dates the Porsche Special Wishes department (1984) and was imported into the States from Germany in the early ‘80s.
