Introduced to the world in 1981, the DeLorean DMC-12, became instantly iconic for many, many reasons. Designed by acclaimed Italian automobile designer, Giorgetto Giugiaro, it’s distinctive bushed stainless steel body and gull-wing doors, were a clear nod to the angular and futuristic lines that dominated the late 1970s and early 1980s—making it the perfect candidate for its ultimate claim to fame as the time machine in the 1985 box office hit and cult classic, Back to the Future.
After leaving General Motors in 1973, famed automotive executive John DeLorean (the father of the Pontiac GTO) conceptualized the DMC-12. He sought to create a futuristic, innovative sports car that could stand the test of time (pun intended). But, despite the initial excitement, the company faced financial struggles, and production of the DMC-12 was short-lived, ending in 1983 after producing around 9,000 units.
Our 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 has gone only 33k miles and is in excellent overall condition. Adorned with all of its original stickers and having recently benefitted from a hefty mechanical refresh, it has become exceedingly difficult to find such a well sorted DMC-12.
