Nineteen Seventy One—1 of 830.

Introduced in 1963, Mercedes-Benz embraced mid-century elegance and simplicity with a silhouette that would become the design language for nearly all SL (Super Light) models to follow—the W113 SL, or known by it’s nickname, the “Pagoda”, for it’s slightly concave removable hard-top.

With a production period spanning just over eight years, the German auto Haus built three separate mechanical trim levels, a 230 (2.3L), 250 (2.5L) and a 280 (2.8L)—all of which featured a straight-six setup and were available with either a manual or automatic gearbox. With its torquey nature and overall small platform, the Pagoda quickly became Mercedes’ flagship sports touring car.

Our 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda is finished in its factory correct specification of Ivory over a Dark Brown MB Tex Vinyl interior. Collector owned, this beautiful example is one of only 830 cars produced for the 1971 model year—making it one of the most sought after years in the series. Sporting the correct Becker “Mexico” radio, factory air-conditioning, a four-speed automatic transmission as well as power steering & brakes, this mid-century icon shows obvious signs of a passionate care-taker and is one of the most daily-drivable classics that we’ve encountered!
