By 1965 production of the 911 had been underway for nearly two years, but, Porsche wasn’t quite ready to bid farewell to the model that started it all. At the tail end of 1963, the famed autohaus would introduce the final iteration of the 356—the 356 SC (Super Carrera). The SC featured a larger camshaft, upgraded air intakes/filters and a set of two-barrel Solex carburetors which all together resulted in a whopping 107 hp—a twelve hp power bump from it’s Type C predecessor. In addition to some much needed attention paid to the car’s starting and stopping abilities, the SC received an improved suspension setup and 4-wheel disc brakes.
In 1965, this spectacular example was purchased by a young school teacher at the legendary Brumos Porsche dealership in Jacksonville, Florida. Soon after taking delivery, she received notice of an upcoming transfer from Tallahassee to Melbourne and thought that her Porsche may be a bit over the top for the new school’s parking lot. In bit of a rush, she made a switch to the 356’s not so distant cousin, the Volkswagen Beetle.
Shortly after the swap, the car was bought by a Riviera Beach, Florida native for his wife—but, there was only one thing standing in the way of her “perfect” spec. When he returned home with the car, he was bluntly reminded of her dream color, Champagne Yellow. So, as any avid car enthusiast and at-home mechanic would do in the ‘60s, he ordered the factory specific Glasurit paint and got to it in his own garage…it was done within the week.
Fast forward; The car was repainted once more in 2008, has gone a total of 133k pampered miles and to say that this SC has been incredible well-cared for would be a massive understatement. Having just recently changed hands from its second owner of more than 54 years, a complete reupholster with the factory/period specific Connolly Leather in Red was done and all necessary mechanical maintenance performed.
