The 911 SC (Super Carrera) was produced from 1978 to 1983 and was the last 911 to be offered without any “Carrera” badging or packaging. Much like the last Porsche to bear the SC name, the ’64/’65 356 SC, the 911 SC was set to serve a similar purpose—to phase the model out.
By 1980, Porsche had delayed what felt like the inevitable for far too long. But, when the German Auto Haus appointed their first American born CEO, Peter Schutz in 1981, he did not agree with the decision to solely focus on front engine models. The story goes as follows…Schutz walked into the design room, picked up a pen and right in front of the designers themselves, drew the next decade of the 911. Left dumbfounded, the entire company fell in line and the 911 would live to see many more birthdays.
Photographed above, this 1979 Porsche 911 SC Coupe was first purchased by a Dr. in Atlanta, Georgia and has had only two owners until 2020. In 1985 the original owner sold the car to a close friend, and as an engineer by trade, the second owner would handle any/all services himself. Wearing a fair amount of its original Black paint, an entirely original Black interior and having gone only 40k miles since new, this beautiful 911 SC is a wonderful reminder of what might have been the last 911—ever.
