The Rolex GMT Master has etched its place in horological history as both an iconic and horological necessity. Introduced in 1955, the GMT Master was initially developed in collaboration with Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) to meet the needs of pilots crossing multiple time zones. Its standout feature was the 24-hour rotating bezel, allowing wearers to track a second time zone simultaneously. The model gained fame as the official watch of Pan Am pilots and became synonymous with the golden age of air travel.

Throughout the evolution of the GMT Master, subtle changes to the case, dial, hands and lume were not uncommon. The reference 16750—produced from the late 1970s to the early 1980s—stands as a bridge between the vintage charm of earlier models and the modern sophistication of later iterations. Retaining the signature red GMT hand and rotating bezel for dual-time functionality, the 16750 introduced the quickset date feature, enhancing practicality. Powered by the Caliber 3075 movement, it marked a technological leap for the GMT Master line. The 16750 is recognized for its transitional appeal, and with its two-tone red and blue bezel, has developed the nickname “Pepsi”.

Photographed here, our 1985 Rolex GMT Master Reference 16750, is a vintage gem that showcases a wonderful amount of period patina and charm. Complete with its original box and papers, this “Pepsi” is in excellent overall condition.
