Carpet pile was about to tighten up, Sony was close to putting the radio in your pocket and aerobics classes were about to become an at-home workout…on television. That’s right, the ’70s were coming to an end and Porsche was so confused that not only did they decide to replace the 911 but they were about to do so by ditching thirty years worth of “flat” motor engineering!
Enter, the 928. Making its world debut at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show, the 928 was Porsche’s first stab at the grand-touring market. Featuring a V8 that was extremely similar in simplicity and overall design to a Chevrolet big-block, the 928 was noted as one of the most comfortable grand-tourers available. That said, sales were not great, and within the first year, CEO Peter Schutz, made the executive decision to sell both the 928 and 911 as complements to one another—the 911 lived on! Profits aside and an eighteen-year production run later, the front engined beast would go down in history as one of the most well-balanced V8 GT cars ever produced—50/50 to be precise.
Our 1986 Porsche 928 S is finished in its original specification of Guards Red over a Cashmere leather interior. Wearing most of its original single-state paint, this iconic German muscle car has gone only 67k miles and remained in a collection for many years. The original 5.4L naturally aspirated V8 is paired with the highly sought after, 5-speed manual gearbox—yes, most of these were automatic.
