The Peugeot 205 was initially launched in 1983 and quickly became a defining model for the French automaker. Developed as a replacement for the aging 104, the 205 was positioned to compete in the highly competitive Supermini segment. The 205's range included various models, from the fuel-efficient diesel versions to the sporty GTI—which became an icon of the hot hatch era. The model's success was bolstered by its rallying prowess, particularly with the 205 Turbo 16, which dominated the World Rally Championship in the mid-1980s.
Throughout it’s production, a unique collaboration between Peugeot and famed Italian designer Pininfarina, led to the creation of the 205 CTI Cabriolet—a convertible version that combined the sporty character of the 205 GTI with open-top motoring. Introduced in 1986, the 205 CTI retained much of the GTI's performance attributes, featuring the same 1.6-liter and later 1.9-liter engines, but with added flair and elegance thanks to Italian design expertise.
Photographed here, our 1987 Peugeot 205 CTI Cabriolet is finished in its original configuration of Italian Red over a unique "Monaco" Fabric interior. Having gone only 80, 695 miles since new, this beautiful example has been preserved by Squadro Lupo—a South Florida based collection of unique imports that specializes in retaining originality at all costs.
