Few cars are as instantly recognizable—or as universally admired—as the Jaguar E-Type. When it was unveiled at the 1961 Geneva Auto Show, none other than Enzo Ferrari himself called it "the most beautiful car in the world." Decades later, its significance remains undeniable, with the E-Type being the only British car ever displayed at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
Delivered new in Reading, Pennsylvania on July 7, 1964, this 1964 Jaguar XKE Series 1 3.8 Roadster is a stunning example of the model’s early and most desirable iteration. Finished in its factory-correct Black over Oxblood Red leather, this car is as elegant as it is rare.
Under the bonnet lies its original, numbers-matching 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six, paired with the original four-speed manual transmission—both confirmed by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate. The engine was rebuilt in the mid-1980s and the exterior finish was re-done at the same time.
Beyond its mechanical pedigree, this car comes with an impressive history file. Extensive documentation accompanies the sale, including a framed original warranty, maintenance records, judging score sheets, owner's and workshop manuals. Recently, we’ve brought its Black finish back to life with a thorough paint-correction and detail.
