Introduced in the 1950s, the Fiat 500 (Cinquecento) was launched as an inexpensive and “practical” small car. And, Fiat wasn’t necessarily wrong. This iconic Italian city car can fit comfortably between two parallel parked cars and the interior of the Cinquecento is rather spacious.
And then there was the Jolly…
So the story goes, Fiat founder Gianni Agnelli wanted something a bit more special than the traditional 500s & 600s—specifically to fit on the aft of this 82 ft. yacht, “Agneta”. Well, with those orders, a total of 300 Cinquecentos were to sent to famed Italian design house, Ghia, with the result being a series of unique Mediterranean cruisers, bearing the nickname “Jolly”. Sadly, of the 300 period Jollys produced, it is rumored that only about 100 still exist today.
Photographed here, our 1966 Fiat 600 “Jolly” was recently restored and converted to Jolly specification in Italy. And, just like the original, our Jolly is fitted with period style wicker seats and a fabric top. However, this particular “Jolly” has had its original 600cc motor enlarged to 850cc—so unlike the original, it really moves!
