After 1968, LH and SWB, were two abbreviations that when combined would soon belong exclusively to the description of one car and one car only, the earliest iteration of the iconic Porsche 911.
From 1963 to 1968 Porsche produced a body that wore a long hood (LH) and was mated to a chassis with a distinctive short wheel base (SWB). During this time, Porsche continued to grow their already legendary status by building variations of the 911 that would compete in, and win, practically every racing event in the world. In addition to an astounding motorsports resume, the German marque quickly grew to be known as the manufacturer of one of the most fabled and widely desired sports cars in history the 911.
Photographed here, our 1965 Porsche 911 is finished in its correct specification of Light Ivory over a Tan leather interior. With its production beginning prior to the summer break of ’65 and completion in August of that year, chassis 302161 did not receive a U.S. until March of 1967, which indicates a strong possibility that this was a factory/dealer demonstration vehicle.
Having been recently restored, this beautiful early 911 is accompanied by its original owner’s manuals and a copy of the Kardex. It is a matching numbers example, with its 2.0L Flat-6 and 5-speed manual 901 gearbox having been rebuilt during the restoration. All-in-all, this is an amazing opportunity to own one of the earliest 911s produced.
