“One must keep working continuously; otherwise, one thinks of death” - Enzo Ferrari

In 1950, Ferrari’s release of the 166 Inter kicked off a thirty-three year consecutive run of front-engined, V12 powered, two-seat grand-touring cars. Over this triple decade time-span, the famed Italian automaker would build some of the world’s greatest GT cars, such as the 250, 275, 330 and 365—to name a few. This in mind, it’s safe to say that a V12 grand-tourer lies at the very core of the Ferrari DNA. But, ultimately, the decision to transition and focus on a mid-engined model line-up was made, and with the release of 1973 365 GT/4 Berlinetta-Boxster, the 365/4 Daytona was framed as the last hoorah—or was it...

By 1994, Ferrari had put over twenty years worth of pivoting under their belt and realized that it was time to revert back—to their roots. After more than two years of development, the 550 Maranello would make its world debut at the iconic German endurance circuit, the Nüburing in 1996. And, after a successful production run, it’s successor, the 575 Maranello was revealed and was built for only 2 years before the idea of V12 GT Ferrari would once again be shelved—thankfully, this time it was only for three years (cough, cough, the 599 GTB).

Photographed here, our 2005 Ferrari 575M Superamerica is finished in its original configuration of Nero over Nero and is one of only 559 produced. As one rarest and most exclusive variants of the Maranello line, the Superamerica was built to offer an updated and power-top option to it’s 550 predecessor, the Barchetta. With this particular example having gone only 10,809 miles since being delivered new in Calabasas, California in December of 2005, it has been exceptionally well cared for throughout its life and recently received an entirely new top from Ferrari.
