This 1954 Fender Telecaster is one of the last Blackguard models produced before the design changed in the Fall of that year. It represents the pinnacle of the iconic Tele's original form. The ash body features the original butterscotch blonde nitrocellulose lacquer finish, which has aged beautifully over nearly 70 years.
The single-ply black pickguard, known as a "Blackguard", remains intact and original. Lifting it reveals the hand-wound black bobbin pickups, which deliver the classic Tele twang and bite. The original pots, wiring, and switch are also present, with the mud cap removed from the bridge pickup for extra snarl.
The one-piece maple neck dates to September 1954, with a pencil marking by legendary Fender builder Tadeo Gomez. While the neck has been refretted at some point in its life, the work was done with great care.
The body dates to July 1954, just months before the Stratocaster's debut. This guitar represents the final chapter of the revered Blackguard era.
Completing the package are the original "ashtray" bridge cover and the rare 1954-only tweed case with the flat bottom edge. A true time capsule and a must-have for any serious Fender collector.
