When Porsche replaced the 356 in 1965 it did not replace it with the 911 alone. The 912 carried the 356's four-cylinder engine into the new body, and through the first years of the F-series it was the car most people actually bought — in 1966 it outsold the 911 roughly two to one.
Power comes from the 1.6-liter Type 616/36 flat-four, ninety horsepower from the factory—converted here to Weber carburetors with correct manifolds. This is a desirable five-speed car too, carrying the Type 902/1 gearbox rather than the standard four-speed.
Photographed here is our 1966 Porsche 912, Karmann-bodied coupe, completed at the factory on March 18, 1966. It is matching numbers example that has been Irish Green its entire life. Ownership traces without a gap from 1970s Virginia registrations through a single long-term owner and into current hands.
