Before the GT500 and Boss programs came to further define the late-1960s performance identity of the Mustang, Shelby American was already refining a vision of their own. The GT350 had always been conceived as a driver’s car first, developed to bridge the gap between road and track. And, by 1969, the Shelby Mustang had evolved into a distinct expression of exactly that.

Far from a conventional Mustang, the 1969 Shelby GT350 represented the final chapter of true Shelby-influenced development before the cars became largely a styling and branding exercise. With functional aerodynamic revisions, fiberglass body components, revised suspension tuning, and a carefully selected drivetrain package, the GT350 remained a highly capable, purpose-built performance car that preserved the core Shelby ethos of usable power, confident handling, and an unmistakable presence.

The GT350H occupies an even more distinctive place in this lineage. Created for the famed, Hertz “Rent-A-Racer” program, these cars were specified to showcase Shelby performance to a broader audience while remaining faithful to the character that made the GT350 a legend. Produced in limited numbers and finished in a striking black-and-gold livery, the GT350H became an instant cultural icon.

Our 1969 Shelby GT350H Fastback stands as a well-preserved example of that special collaboration. Retaining its correct Shelby-specific bodywork, interior appointments, and original powertrain, the car reflects the unique blend of factory Mustang production and Shelby refinement that defined the era. The fiberglass hood, front and rear fascias, signature striping, and Shelby badging and performance upgrades, combine to create a car that feels distinctly separate from a standard Mustang of the period. Supported by both Shelby & Ford documentation, this GT350H is reported to be the only car built for the Hertz Rent-A-Racer program that was finished in this specification—Competition Red over a Black Knit/Corinthian Vinyl interior.   ⁣
