In 1967, Girard‑Perregaux decided to have a little fun with their new watch series, the 9034. The result was the reference 9034BB. Affectionately nicknamed the “Playboy Moon Watch,” the model earned this moniker after making an appearance in Playboy magazine—an association proudly highlighted in the brand’s period advertising. Housed in a svelte 34.5mm stainless steel case, the dial features a hand-painted enamel ring of twelve luminous dots that freeze the lunar cycle in time—a psychedelic embodiment of the Space Race era. Powered by GP’s manually wound Caliber 12.3, this late-1960s example stands out not just for its originality, but for its scarcity; very few of these luminous "dot dial" variants have survived the decades in such clean and complete condition.
Photographed here, our 9034 wears its sixties charisma proudly: the charcoal grey dial remains deep and even, the crisp white “moons” and matching white‑tipped hands pop with playful contrast, and the short angular lugs retain their sharp factory geometry. A screw‑down case‑back borrowed from the Sea‑Hawk line keeps things “waterproof” by period standards (although more than 50 years later, we would only advise treating this as “splash-proof”). For collectors who appreciate mid‑century experimentation and a watch that will always put a smile on your face, this “Playboy Moon Watch” offers a rare chance to own one of the most quicky creations by Girard‑Perregaux.
