Introduced in the mid-40s, the Datejust quickly became the bedrock standard of the Rolex catalog, and it remains the brand’s longest-running model in continuous production to this day. This Ref. 1803 from c.1972 is part of the “Wide Boy” family – a rare variation with noticeably thicker and squarer hands and hour markers. This adjustment gives the dial a slightly bolder and heavier presence compared to the sleek and delicate look of the standard baton style markers.

Housed in a 36mm steel case with the bygone “machine-turned” bezel, this watch is in excellent condition for its age. The dial remains vibrant, and the Wide Boy markers remain bold and crisp with no tarnishing. The case, Jubilee bracelet, and crystal show light surface scratches throughout. The watch is powered by one of the brand’s most reliable and well-regarded workhorses of the period – the Caliber 1570, a COSC-certified automatic movement with hacking seconds.

For those who know the Datejust line, the Wide Boy stands out as a striking, quirky variation. It offers just enough of a difference to feel unique, while maintaining all the classic Datejust DNA.
