By the mid-1980s, American performance was in a strange place—big power had faded, emissions regulations grabbed hold of engineering freedom and most muscle cars had lost their edge. But, Buick was not ready to accept that as the end, instead they took it as a challenge to innovate…
Enter, the Grand National…instead of a rumbling V8, Buick leaned into turbocharging, creating a sinister, all-black coupe powered by a boosted V6 that shocked the industry. It wasn’t loud or flashy—it was calculated, understated, and brutally quick. The Grand National became a symbol of a transitional era in American performance, proving that technology—not just displacement—was the future.
Photographed here, our beautifully preserved 1987 Buick Grand National is finished in the iconic Black over Black and Silver specification and has covered only 10,615 miles since new. Having been impeccably kept, this highly original icon is accompanied by its factory books, keys, and even a copy of the original window sticker.
